Saving mothers on Youth Day

On 16 June the Project Flamingo team and a group of inspiring doctors and nurses from Groote Schuur Hospital opened two extra theatres to perform mastectomies and reconstruction surgeries for 6 patients.

By doing these operations on a public holiday and funding the nursing and consumable fees while the doctors work pro bono on their day off, waiting time for cancer surgeries at Groote Schuur has been reduced significantly reduced.

Before their surgeries, our caring Flamingo ladies surprised the ladies on the ward with pamper packs and words of encouragement while the nursing staff was spoiled with decadent pink cupcakes by our resident baker Ezra. Our utmost thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this day an enormous success. And to our patients – may your journey to recovery be one blessed with much love and healing.
