Meet Flamingo's Sr. Ewerts, the face of our Fair Cape Dairies Collab

Sr. Evelyn Ewerts is part of the core Project Flamingo team at the George Regional Hospital, and this Breast Cancer Awareness Month she's the proud ambassador on the iconic 2L Fair Cape Eco-Fresh milk bottles. This campaign aims to raise funds and awareness for vulnerable patients in the public health sector, through the work Project Flamingo does on the ground.

We asked her about the importance of early detection, her role as a nurse, and what it means to have hope.

  1. Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women worldwide. As a nurse who works with it every day, what is it that you want women to know about breast cancer? What should every woman know? Every woman should know that breast cancer is treatable if diagnosed early.

  2. What is your advice to a woman who feels a lump in her breast and doesn't know what to do? If you are concerned, visit your nearest clinic immediately, or if you can afford it, your family doctor.

  3. What gives you hope every day? It is important to me to make a difference in someone else's life.

  4. What is your purpose in life? It is also important to me to provide nursing care to someone who needs it.

  5. How do you feel about being the face of our breast cancer campaign alongside Faircape? Being part of the Flamingo team is a great privilege, and the feeling is indescribable and full of gratitude.

  6. What makes your job enjoyable for you? My work is my passion and keeps me humble and grateful. The theater is filled with positive energy.

What do you enjoy about working with Project Flamingo? Flamingo gives hope to many, and that is the most important thing. To be in service in the care and treatment of my fellow human beings, and to share the information and guidance available to me with them and their families.
  1. If you want to inspire others, what would you say to them?  I will always inspire others to never lose hope or give up; there is always hope.
