CREATING A SAFE, INCLUSIVE SPACE
Our mission is to start students young, nurturing values that will shape compassionate and proactive individuals in the future healthcare system. In doing so we also create an inclusive, safe space where students are encouraged to talk about issues relevant to what they experience.
Principles we teach & advocate for:
Self-Care: Teaching the importance of taking care of their bodies and minds.
Compassionate Care: Instilling the significance of empathy and kindness in every interaction.
Patient Advocacy: Empowering them to be voices for those who cannot speak for themselves.
Deliberate Living: Encouraging thoughtful, intentional choices that positively impact their communities.
We believe it is crucial to teach young medical students the value of advocating for others and being compassionate doctors of the future. We value what these young minds contribute. We are passionate about education and are committed to fostering a generation of medical professionals who are not only skilled but also deeply compassionate and dedicated to making a difference. The Flaminglets are a testament to our belief that education and compassion go hand in hand in creating a healthier, more caring society.

WHAT OUR STUDENT VOLUNTEERS SAY
Chantelle Guise-Brown
Being a part of Project Flamingo inspires me to show up for my patients with passion and empathy. They have shaped my beliefs about holistic patient care and patient advocacy. I feel honored to be included in this community of compassionate and dedicated individuals, and I aspire to embody their values as I become a doctor.
Marlu McLean
It has been such a privilege being part of the Project Flamingo team. It is so much more than an NPO, it is a loving family who puts the patient's needs before their own and above and beyond for each cancer patient.
Naledi Mohale
Being a Flaminglet to means being part of a selfless team that works tirelessly to ensure that patients receive timeous surgical intervention. It means learning not only about medical procedures and surgical techniques, but also about different barriers to healthcare and how we as healthcare workers can help to mitigate these for our patients. It truly has been an honour to be part of such an amazing project!
