Groote Schuur Hospital Staff Wellness Initiative

I believe that integral to changing the journey of any cancer patient in our public health care system, is the wellbeing and state of mind of the health care workers in the system. These people, from doctors and nurses to administration and cleaning staff, each play a vital role – yet little is invested in supporting them. It is to that end that we use Breast Cancer Awareness each October as an excuse to talk to the staff at Groote Schuur Hospital – not only about Breast Health but about wellness and advocacy in general. By investing in the staff, we are investing in the care of our patients.

“Healing represents an expansion of consciousness and a movement in the direction of wholeness/ health. We can be healed by our illness but not cured of it OR we can be cured of our illness but not healed by it. Healing may or may not result in cure.” (Maria Christodoulou)

To truly SEE situations and people
To SPEAK UP or give the gift of SILENCE, to STAND UP and STAND TALL for others and myself
To honor your SOUL and mine
To always ACT knowing that I can make the biggest difference in the smallest ways” (Liana Roodt)

“Hope is the thing with feathers that perches on the soul, and sings the tunes without words – and never stops at all.” (Emily Dickenson)
